The OHS Service Club was recently started, and I believe that it is important for the student government and student body to actively participate in it. This could be by helping to raise funds or by creating contacts and participating in the club.
Some project ideas:
- Old textbooks could be donated to different organizations
- Money can be raised to buy textbooks/school supplies to send to places in need
- Volunteer opportunities can be found in the Bay Area for interested volunteers during the summer sessions and/or graduation
- During class trips, interested students can choose to do some volunteer work
- Class trips can be made for the purpose of volunteering at different places
- For example: This past summer, while staying in China, I heard about a home near Beijing that takes in homeless children. These children's parents are in jail, and they have no other adults to take care of them. They come to this home and live together as one big family . There are about 15 of these homes throughout China, and we could go volunteer there and teach the children English. I intend on going back to China next year and doing just this.
